Cardinal Newman High School marked its 65th anniversary in spectacular fashion with Newman Night 2026: La Dolce Vita, held March 7 at the Kravis Center. Inspired by the timeless elegance and joyful spirit of Italy, the evening welcomed alumni, parents, and friends of the school for a celebration of faith, community, and tradition—resulting in some record-breaking numbers, and one of the most successful fundraising evenings in recent school history.
True to its theme, the evening embraced the essence of la dolce vita—the sweet life—where great food, lively music, and warm fellowship came together in support of the school’s mission of Catholic education and leadership.
The gala honored Rocco and Jennifer Marcello for their generosity and enduring commitment to Cardinal Newman. Their leadership was essential in transforming the North Academic Building, completed in 2024, with support from the Marcello family and many dedicated donors. The Marcello Family and Windsor Private Capital were Sapphire Sponsors of the gala.
The evening was chaired by Jennifer Hendrix, Monique Javarone, Mary Cullen Lombardi, Emanuela Marcello, and Laura Smeenge, who infused every element of the celebration with thoughtful detail and unmistakable Italian flair. Their vision created an atmosphere of effortless elegance and charming hospitality—hallmarks of both Italian culture and the close-knit Newman community.
From the moment guests arrived, they were transported to Italy. The celebration started with a photo opportunity beside a charming 1972 Fiat 500, evoking the romance of the Italian Riviera, followed by a festive aperitivo reception featuring cultural scenes including Capri Beach, the Straw Bag Mercato, and a Vespa, providing beautiful photo backgrounds. Inside the ballroom, the space glowed with blue lighting and elegant blue-and-white Majolica-inspired décor accented with vibrant magenta in honor of Cardinal Newman’s 65th Sapphire Anniversary. Tables were decorated with lush arrangements of magenta orchids and bougainvillea displayed in classic blue-and-white vessels, creating a setting reminiscent of the Amalfi Coast.
“We are deeply grateful for the extraordinary generosity of our Newman family,” said Cardinal Newman President Charles Stembler. “For 65 years, this community has supported our mission and ensured that Cardinal Newman continues to form young men and women of faith, character, and purpose. Tonight celebrates not only our history, but those whose generosity shapes our future.”
The program featured special guest Most Reverend Manuel de Jesús Rodríguez, new Bishop of the Diocese of Palm Beach, an energetic live auction, and a heartfelt Call to Heart, inspiring support for scholarships, programs, and the school’s continued growth.
As the evening unfolded, the ballroom transformed into a lively Italian dance party. Guests danced to Italian music late into the night, embodying the joyful spirit of la dolce vita. In true Italian fashion, the celebration concluded with a festive late-night tradition—fresh pizza served on the dance floor, bringing laughter, conversation, and the perfect ending to an unforgettable evening.
Newman Night 2026 was more than a gala; it was a celebration of 65 years of faith, friendship, and the enduring spirit of the Cardinal Newman family.
