Cardinal Newman High School students and faculty gathered on September 30 for the Mass of the Holy Spirit, the first all-student Mass of the 2026–27 school year. Celebrated by the Most Rev. Gerald M. Barbarito, Bishop Emeritus of the Diocese of Palm Beach, the Mass brought the school community together in prayer and reflection.
Principal Ed Curtin welcomed students and faculty and opened the Mass with a reminder of the strength and guidance available through faith.
“The Holy Spirit is with us to help us in times of self-doubt,” said Curtin.
In his homily, Bishop Barbarito encouraged students to take time to know themselves and listen for the voice of God. In a busy, fast-paced world, he reminded them of the importance of quiet reflection and making room to hear the Holy Spirit, who offers guidance and support throughout their lives.
Bishop Barbarito also encouraged students to embrace their experience at Cardinal Newman, participating in and appreciating the many opportunities the school offers. His message connected self-awareness with respect for others, emphasizing that understanding and valuing who we are helps us recognize the dignity and worth of those around us.
School Masses are an integral part of Cardinal Newman’s Catholic identity and its commitment to educating the whole person: spirit, mind, and body. These shared experiences nurture students’ spiritual growth and moral development while strengthening the bonds among students and faculty.
