Induction celebrates scientific achievement, curiosity, and a commitment to service.

Cardinal Newman High School celebrated its newest Science National Honor Society members during the Fall Induction Ceremony on September 30. Fellow classmates, faculty, and family members gathered to recognize the inductees for their achievements and passion for science.

Moderated by Science Department Chair Ms. Christine Politz, the organization encourages students to use their scientific knowledge to better understand how the world around them works. Membership provides an opportunity to turn that curiosity into a commitment to serving others.

“I couldn’t be prouder of our newest Science National Honor Society inductees. These are the students who genuinely love science: the ones who are curious, ask questions, get excited about discovering how things work, and aren’t afraid to dig a little deeper,” said Politz. “They are our true science kids, and I have no doubt that they will go on to do incredible things and make a difference in the future. It is such a privilege to watch them grow and to know that these are the young scientists who will help shape what comes next.”

Principal Ed Curtin expressed the school community’s immense pride in the students, recognizing their enthusiasm and the way they have made science both meaningful and fun. He also reflected on the connection between faith and scientific discovery within the Catholic tradition.

Mr. Curtin explained that faith and reason are complementary ways of seeking the same ultimate truth. Because both stem from God, they cannot truly contradict one another. Studying the physical world offers an opportunity to appreciate the genius of the Creator: science helps reveal how the world works, while faith helps us understand why.

He also reminded inductees that membership in the Science National Honor Society carries a responsibility to put their knowledge to work for the good of others. Science can be a tool for healing and innovation, protecting the vulnerable, and caring for our common home.
