Accommodation Plans at Cardinal Newman

Here at Cardinal Newman High School, our mission is to educate the whole person: spirit, mind, and body. One of the ways we support this mission academically is by providing accommodation plans to eligible students with various exceptionalities. As a private school we offer individualized  Accommodation Plans rather than traditional  IEPs ( Individualized Education Plan) or 504 Plans. Each Accommodation Plan is created on an individual basis determined by each student’s unique needs and abilities.  Operating as a Private School, we offer limited accommodations to our students which may include preferential seating, 50% extended time for testing, clarification of directions, note buddies and more.  Former accommodations, IEPs, 504s, etc do not automatically transfer to Cardinal Newman and we do not guarantee the availability of all accommodations you may have previously received or have been recommended to receive. We will review your student’s individual needs and accommodations available to them at the initial Accommodation Plan meeting. Upon admission to Cardinal Newman, we request documentation to establish eligibility for an Accommodation Plan. This documentation may include former IEPs, 504s or accommodation plans along with the most recent psychoeducational evaluation or medical note corresponding to the specific diagnosis. If documentation is determined to be sufficient a meeting will be set up to create the Accommodation Plan. For students with an established Cardinal Newman Accommodations Plan, we will meet annually to review your plan and determine if any adjustments are needed.

Accommodations for Standardized Testing

If your student would like to apply for accommodations for the PSAT, SAT, AP or ACT tests there is a separate application process for these. College Board and ACT have their own documentation and eligibility requirements which may be more extensive that what Cardinal Newman requires for you to receive at this school. Oftentimes these agencies require documentation such as psychoeducational evaluations to have been completed within the last three years. During the planning process, we will navigate these intricacies, ensuring your student’s individual needs are addressed. If your documentation is older than the College Board/ACT requirements and you need resources for updated testing, please contact  dawn.stricklin@cardinalnewman.com for more information.
