The Foreign Language Department at Cardinal Newman takes a comprehensive approach to Spanish language acquisition, prioritizing effective communication. Our teaching methodology involves exposing students to authentic resources that include videos, articles, infographics, and podcasts, as well as creating an immersive learning environment to  facilitate student language production at an appropriate level. Our department is dedicated to developing each student’s language and cultural proficiency to be better prepared for a global society. Our teachers emphasize active use of the target language and cultural awareness across speaking, reading, writing, and listening skills. Our course offerings range from Spanish I Regular and Honors for beginners to advanced levels, Spanish IV Honors and AP Spanish Language.  Additionally, through our partnership with St. Thomas University’s Dual Enrollment Program, students have the opportunity to earn college credit in Foreign Language.
